WWE wrestler Kane will become the next mayor of Tennessee’s Knox County following a victory at the polls Thursday.
Republican candidate Glenn Jacobs, better known by his stage name Kane, was determined to have beaten Democrat Linda Haney shortly after 8 p.m. local time, according to local reports.
The small business owner was up by a rate of two-to-one when the election was called, a much higher rate than the 23 voters by which he won the GOP primary earlier this year.
Jacobs has lived in eastern Tennessee with his wife for 23 years and moved to the county several years ago.
He oversees Jacobs Insurance Associates in nearby Halls, Tenn.
But outside Tennessee, he is known internally as Kane for his 25 years of fighting as part of the WWE network. He even continued wrestling after winning his primary.
He will assume office Sept. 1. Jacobs campaigned to “make Knox County what President Reagan referred to as the ‘shining city upon a hill.'”
According to his campaign website, his focuses include keeping taxes low, education, creating jobs, improving roads and infrastructure, improving public safety, and doing all of these things with “full and absolute transparency.”
