TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Ron Barber is planning a “Congress on Your Corner” event in Tucson after being sworn in this week to fill the seat vacated by his former boss Gabrielle Giffords.

With backing from Giffords, Barber won a special election last week to represent Arizona’s 8th Congressional District. Both were wounded in January 2011 when a gunman opened fire at a “Congress on Your Corner” event for the then-congresswoman and her constituents. Eleven others also were wounded and six people were killed.

Barber’s office says his meeting Saturday with voters at a Safeway grocery store will be held at 1 p.m. It previously was scheduled for earlier Saturday, but was postponed by several hours because weather delayed Barber’s travels from Washington.

A former Giffords aide, Barber will run again in the November general election.
