A man whose wife pleaded guilty to conspiring to steal at least $500,000 worth of gold from South Asian families in Northern Virginia has admitted his role in the thefts.

Dagoberto Soto-Ramirez, 27, of New York City, admitted in federal court in Alexandria that he and two others burglarized gold and other valuables from 37 homes in Loudoun and Fairfax counties. They targeted the homes of South Asians because they believed the families kept large amounts of gold in their homes.

Soto-Ramirez admitted that he helped find potential victims, pretended to be a service man at the homes and broke into the residences if no one answered the door. Soto-Ramirez and his wife, Melinda M. Soto, were indicted in July.

Another man, Francisco Gray, was also indicted. Prosecutors say Gray is a fugitive.
