Donald Trump is now just 1 percentage point behind Hillary Clinton in the latest nationwide poll.
A new NBC News/SurveyMonkey Weekly Election Tracking poll says Trump trails Clinton 46 percent-45 percent, after being down 3 points in last week’s poll. The result is similar to another poll released Monday that had Trump down 2 points, and said Trump is gaining strength among independents.
When Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein are included in the poll, Trump moves ahead of Clinton, 40-39. Johnson has 10 percent support and Stein has 5 percent.
But while Trump has called for Republican unification, the poll shows there is still a long way to go. Only 11 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning voters think the party is unified now. And though 50 percent think that it will unite by November, nearly 40 percent think it will still be divided come fall.
Among Democrats, 44 percent think the party is united now, up 13 points from 31 percent who said it was united last month, before Bernie Sanders’ endorsement of Clinton.
The poll was conducted from July 11-17 among 9,436 adults who said they are registered to vote. The margin of error is plus or minus 1.4 percentage points.
