Blackburn: Trump’s acceptance speech better than Romney’s

Donald Trump delivered a much better acceptance speech at this year’s Republican National Convention than Mitt Romney did in 2012, said Tennessee Rep. Marsha Blackburn.

“Oh my goodness, yes,” the Tennessee Republican responded on “Fox and Friends” Friday, when asked about whether Trump had beaten Romney. “The Romney speech was very measured,” she said, adding that Romney conveyed a message of “We can’t talk about our wealth.”

“The Trump speech was, ‘This is how we did it. This is the embodiment of the American dream. You take something here, and you end up with something here,’ ” Blackburn said. “That’s what everybody wants. They want their children to be able to do better and have more.”

On the issue of Trump connecting with Americans across the economic spectrum, Blackburn added, “He is speaking what people are thinking. He goes out there and he says, look, I know you’re angry about this [and] that … I am too.

“Whether it’s the wall, whether it’s wage stagnation, whether it’s no jobs growth, whether it’s Washington coming in and overriding what your cities and counties and states want to do,” Blackburn said. “People have had it. They’ve really had it.”
