A top conservative radio talk show host said there’s more to the coronavirus pandemic than meets the eye.
On the Wednesday edition of his show, Rush Limbaugh said “deep state” actors were shell-shocked when former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was defeated in 2016 and are now using the pandemic to punish Republicans who voted for then-candidate Donald Trump.
“The entire deep state bureaucratic apparatus was 1,000% invested in Hillary Clinton being elected, and they all thought it was a slam dunk,” Limbaugh said.
“The shock of losing that election has not worn off,” Limbaugh said later, adding that, “It’s coupled with a commitment. They’re not gonna lose another one ever again, either period or like that. It ain’t gonna happen. They aren’t gonna get blindsided.”
President Trump and some of his allies have talked about there being a “deep state,” an expression which refers to an alleged shadow government, to discredit members of the intelligence community and accuse them of working to undermine the presidency.
Discussing newly released FBI notes about the investigation of retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who was swept up in special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia inquiry, Limbaugh condemned what he described as a “silent coup” led by government officials to ensure that Trump would not be elected.
“All these people at the FBI and the intelligence community who ran this hoax operation, this silent coup against Trump, they would’ve been rewarded, they would’ve had lifetime career appointments and jobs and what have you,” Limbaugh added.
Limbaugh also said he has never heard the sort of “fatalism” that his friends have expressed to him during the coronavirus pandemic and accused Democratic lawmakers of shutting down state economies to “teach” Republicans a lesson for voting for Trump.
“We are seeing this manifest itself in the form of advocating for an ongoing never-ending shutdown and lockdown of the United States,” Limbaugh said. “This is what happens to you when you vote against the Left, vote against the Democrat Party. They’ll shut your ass down, they’ll shut down your job, they’ll take your career with it, and they won’t look twice. You are nothing but a stat.”
