NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) — Visitors to Niagara Falls can now get an up-close look at part of the wire daredevil Nik Wallenda walked on over Niagara Falls.
A section of the cable is part of a monument unveiled Monday to commemorate Wallenda’s historic 2012 walk across the Niagara Gorge.
The wire, along with a plaque, is affixed to a boulder from the gorge that now sits on Goat Island in Niagara Falls State Park. The site is near where Wallenda stepped off to become the first person to walk a high-wire directly over the falls.
Wallenda was there Monday as the wraps were taken off the marker. He called the moment surreal.
The Sarasota, Florida, resident is spending his summer in western New York, performing with his family at Darien Lake amusement park.
