A Senate committee will vote next week on President Trump’s pick to lead the Food and Drug Administration, who is expected to be confirmed by the full Senate.
The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee has scheduled an April 26 vote to advance the nomination of Dr. Scott Gottlieb.
Gottlieb was a deputy FDA commissioner during the George W. Bush administration and is a consultant and partner in a venture capital firm. He has wide support among Republicans and is expected to get through the committee vote and be confirmed by the full Senate.
During a confirmation hearing last month, Gottlieb faced questions from Democrats on his ties to pharmaceutical and medical device companies.
The committee also will vote on several health-related bills, including one piece of legislation to help fight the Zika virus.
