WHAT: Between 2006 and 2009, NASA awarded $190,727 in contracts to Animated Earth LLC, a company that develops climate-related software and kiosk museum exhibits.

WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: Climatologist Mark Schoeberl, chief of NASA’s Earth Sciences Division, pleaded guilty to felony conflict-of-interest charges in federal court for using his position to steer contracts to Animated Earth, which is owned by his wife, Barbara.
