Blackstreet Capital unit buys Swisher Mower Swisher Acquisition Inc., an affiliate of Chevy Chase-based Blackstreet Capital, is buying the assets of Swisher Mower and Machine of Missouri.

Swisher manufactures a variety of lawn and garden power equipment including zero-turn riding mowers, ATV mowers, log splitters, high-wheel string trimmer mowers and a wide range of lawn tractor and ATV attachments.

Swisher Acquisition will distribute products to more than 2,000 outlets worldwide from its Warrensburg, Mo., facility. The purchase price has not been disclosed.

Another trans-Atlantic law firm marriage

Squire, Sanders & Dempsey LLP completed previously public merger discussions with London-based Hammonds LLP on Monday, joining a recent trend of major multicontinent legal combinations.

Squire Sanders, founded in Cleveland, has about 82 lawyers in its D.C. offices. The District offices will not be directly affected by the merger; Hammonds has no American presence heading into the merger, which will be effective Jan. 1.

UMBC, Northrop to partner on cyber security

University of Maryland Baltimore County is joining forces with one of the nation’s largest defense contractors to develop a cyber security incubator at its UMBC Research and Technology Park.

Northrop Grumman Corp. has reached a deal with UMBC’s Research Park Corp. to create the new incubator, to be called Northrop Grumman Cync Program. Research Park Corp. Executive Director Ellen Hemmerly said the goal is spawn the commercialization and development of cyber security technology.

“Businesses started through this partnership will come from across the country, expanding the local business base and spurring economic growth in the region,” Hemmerly said.

Early-stage companies from across the country will be invited to apply for space in the new incubator, where they will be able to access resources from the university and from Northrop Grumman to develop tools aimed at securing and protecting computer hardware, software and networks essential to national defense.
