RETAIL SALES: Retail sales have fallen for two straight months, dropping by 0.2 percent in both May and April.
GAS DOWN: A big part of the reason was a fall in the price of gas, which meant sales at gas stations were down. Sales of autos, appliances and furniture are still showing gains.
OUTLOOK: Economists, however, are worried that consumer spending, which accounts for 70 percent of U.S. economic activity, could be headed lower unless job growth revives in coming months.
