Dim Bulb: Sen. Chris Dodd

Published December 1, 2010 5:00am ET

Who: Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn.

What: In his farewell address after 30 years in public office, Dodd decried the “intense partisan polarization” in Congress, which he said makes it “difficult to lose with grace and nearly impossible to compromise without cost.”

Why it’s dim: Dodd himself was a major cause of the polarization. Just eight months ago, he threatened to end negotiations with Senate Republicans because they criticized his financial regulatory bill as a perpetual bailout of financial firms.

Cure: Don’t let the door hit you on your way out.
