Caps 2, Canucks 1
Good first period for Washington. Alex Semin and Chris Clark with the goals after Vancouver took a 1-0 lead. Canucks goal came off an odd play where Ryan Kesler was being hauled down, drew a penalty but flung the puck in front and watched as Jeff Schultz kicked it into his own goal. Clark’s tally came after Eric Fehr had a shot blocked and then Clark himself had a shot blocked. Roberto Luongo wasn’t ready for the third one. Semin’s goal was interesting. He and Brooks Laich went for a loose puck along the boards just outside the Caps’ offensive zone. Semin took it. Laich paid for it. He was launched head over heels into the Vancouver bench as Semin entered the zone and whipped a wrister past Luongo. That’s his 14th of the year. Goal No. 3 for Clark. Nice pace to this one. Both teams into it. Should be a fun final 40 minutes.
