Danish police have arrested one person after three people were killed in a shooting at a Copenhagen mall on Sunday, according to authorities.
The suspect, a 22-year-old Danish man, was “carrying a rifle and ammunition” when he was apprehended by authorities, police inspector Soren Thomassen told reporters at a press conference early Monday morning.

“We are convinced that the 22-year-old suspect arrested was the shooter, he was carrying a rifle and ammunition,” Thomassen said, adding that investigators “believe the suspect was not working with others, but that until they are absolutely certain they will not rule it out.”
Thomassen, who is head of the Copenhagen police operations unit, also revealed that the suspect was arrested thirteen minutes after receiving the first emergency call about the shooting, which resulted in the deaths of at least three individuals. Several others were wounded, including three who are in critical condition.

The three victims were a man in his 40s and “two young people,” according to Thomassen.
The police chief told reporters that it was too soon to speculate on the shooter’s motive, but refused to rule out terrorism.
Videos posted to social media showed people running and screaming at the Field’s shopping center, one of the largest in Scandinavia.
“Terrible reports of shooting in Fields. We do not yet know for sure how many were injured or dead, but it is very serious,” Copenhagen Mayor Sophie H. Andersen said in a tweet.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen described the shooting as a “cruel attack” on her Scandinavian country, writing in a statement: “It is incomprehensible. Heartbreaking. Pointless. Our beautiful and usually so safe capital was changed in a split second.”
The unnamed suspect is expected to appear before a judge on Monday on manslaughter charges.
