Trump distracts fans at Women’s Open

Crowds were distracted Saturday by President Trump’s visit to the U.S. Women’s Open tournament, which took place at his golf club in Bedminster, N.J.

Some fans were irked by other fans who were excited to see the president at the event, saying things like, “Quiet! Jesus, we’re on a golf course.”

Trump was inside a glass-enclosed viewing box and sometimes stopped by the window to wave at attendees. People crowded in parts of the golf site in order to watch him and wave to him, and soon organizers told fans that they could stand behind a rope line to do so for no more than five minutes. One family used a selfie stick to pose in front of the viewing box to include Trump in the background of their picture, and another onlooker became emotional when she saw Trump, wiping tears from her eyes.

Not all were pleased with the president’s presence. One woman told reporters she was angry that Trump was at the event and said she wanted to flick off the box, according to pool reports. She would not give reporters her name.

During the event, Trump spoke with Suzann Pettersen, a Norwegian golfer playing at the tournament, in his viewing area for about 10 minutes and gave her a blue “Make America Great Again” hat. She held up the hat and the crowd cheered.
