House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., warned Monday that President Trump’s actions so far are “grounds for displeasure,” but not yet “grounds for impeachment,” although she said impeachment could be on the table if Trump does anything illegal.
“If he breaks the law that is something that would come up,” she said.
Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., the ranking member on the House Financial Services Committee, on Friday told the news streaming network Cheddar that her “greatest desire is to lead him right into impeachment.”
Waters on Monday told reporters in the Capitol that she “has not called for” Trump’s impeachment but is rather responding to questions and pleas from across the country from people who oppose Trump.
“I think he is leading himself into that kind of position where folks are beginning to ask what are we going to do and the answer is going to be, eventually, we have to do something about him,” Waters told reporters on Monday. “It’s dangerous to the United States of America.”
Democrats are staunchly opposed to Trump’s rapid-fire executive orders and House GOP maneuvers to repeal Obama-era regulations and laws, including Obamacare.
But Democrats are also outnumbered in both the House and Senate, presenting them with an uphill battle if they seek to impeach Trump.
