D.C. police officers are working overtime this weekend in response to a rash of overnight shootings that left a dozen people wounded and shook the city’s east side, a spokeswoman said Friday.
None of the 12 victims shot in seven separate shootings suffered from life-threatening injuries, said D.C. police spokeswoman Traci Hughes. Most were shot in the arms, legs and buttocks.
Police have not found any evidence that the shootings were related, Hughes said.
Police officers in the Sixth and Seventh Districts, including K-9 units, will be working 12 hour shifts tonight and Saturday night, Hughes said.
The shootings started at 11:30 p.m. Thursday and kept police officers scrambling all through the night. The shootings occurred at:
* 1835 Burks Street SE
* 4468 Ponds Street SE
* 637 block of Raleigh Place SE
* 3600 block of NE
* 2700 block of Robinson Place SE
* 1200 block of Eaton Road SE; and
* 3500 7th Street SE.
