Montgomery police on lookout for a hugger

Montgomery County police are looking for a man who has been inappropriately hugging unsuspecting women in Bethesda.

In three cases in July and August, a man has snuck up behind women and wrapped his arms around them, then run away. The man has not tried to rob or speak to any of his victims, police said.

But in the latest incident, which occurred near the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro station on Aug. 8, the man also inappropriately touched the woman after hugging her, according to police.

Detectives believe all three incidents are related, and are looking for a white or possibly Asian male, age 18 to 22, described as having a thin build and dark hair. Two victims said the suspect was wearing athletic shorts and a T-shirt.

Anyone with information about the incidents, or others like it, are asked to call the Montgomery County police’s Bethesda investigative section at 301-657-0112.
