Porn star Stormy Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, ripped her former attorney Michael Avenatti after a jury found him guilty of extortion.
Daniels shared her thoughts on Avenatti in an Instagram post published on Friday. Earlier, news broke that a New York federal court jury had found Avenatti guilty of attempting to extort between $15 million and $22.5 million from the athletics gear company Nike.
“Sadly, it appears that what Michael Avenatti did to me was just the tip of the iceberg of deceit,” Clifford said. “I am not surprised his dishonesty has been revealed on a grand scale.”
“His arrogant, fraudulent, and overly aggressive behavior became so pervasive that the jury found his true character,” Clifford continued. “Although clearly a just result, I do feel sad for his children and foolish for believing his lies for so long.”
Avenatti threatened Nike that a client of his had evidence the corporation paid off college recruits to commit to select universities. Avenatti said the company needed to pay up to $22.5 million to keep his client silent.
Avenatti’s sentencing is scheduled for June 17, though Avenatti’s lead defense attorney, Scott Srebnick, has already promised to appeal.
Avenatti has been charged with extorting money from wealthy corporations and clients numerous times. Last year, Daniels filed a lawsuit against Avenatti, who represented her in a case against President Trump, for allegedly stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from her.
