NUMBER OF YEARS IN D.C.: I moved to the D.C. area in 1966 when I was a little girl — and I’ve lived here for more than 30 years.
NEIGHBORHOOD: Capitol Hill

1. FAVORITE NEIGHBORHOOD HANGOUT
Lincoln Park (lots of doggie friends and neighbors). Of course, the great local hangouts are the Hawk and Dove, the Tune Inn, and Tunnicliff’s.
2. BEST MODE OF TRANSPORT
A 1965 powder blue Vespa!
3. FAVORITE LOCAL SPORTS EVENT
The annual High Heel Drag Race on 17th Street on the Tuesday before Halloween.
4. BEST PLACE FOR LIVE MUSIC
The JV in Falls Church (6666 Arlington Blvd.) for great honky-tonk music, and the Eastern Market music series on Capitol Hill in the spring and fall. I could go on and on, because we have a terrific local music scene.
5. BEST PLACE FOR OUT-OF-TOWN VISITORS
The top of the Old Post Office Pavilion for the best view, the House Dining Room in the U.S. Capitol for an interesting lunch and a personal tour of the White House press room (short but sweet).
6. FAVORITE MUSEUM
The Corcoran and the National Gallery of Art. I loved the Dada exhibit at the National Gallery last year and the Warhol exhibit at the Corcoran.
7. MOST ROMANTIC SPOT
My second most romantic spot is Congressional Cemetery, on Capitol Hill. (I can’t tell you my MOST romantic spot!)
8. FAVORITE WAY TO SPEND A LAZY SUNDAY
I never have a lazy Sunday, because I work on weekends. But if I did, I’d read the Sunday New York Times, work on the crossword puzzle, walk over to Eastern Market and cruise the vendors, and maybe get some barbecue at Market Lunch. Walk home and play ball with Chloe (dog), then do some painting (on canvas).
9. BEN’S CHILI BOWL, OLD EBBITT GRILL OR CAFE MILAN?
Ben’s Chili Bowl, of course. But the original Old Ebbitt Grill on F Street beats all other places hands down. That was a truly great bar.
10. BEST OUT-OF-TOWN RETREAT
My dad’s house on the Little Choptank River in Cambridge, Md.
11. BEST INSIDE-THE-BELTWAY RETREAT
The National Arboretum.
12. BEST PLACE FOR LATE-NIGHT EATS
The Tastee Diner in Bethesda, Mario’s on Wilson Boulevard in Arlington, the JV restaurant in Falls Church (good barbecue and chicken wings).
13. PROUDEST PART OF LIVING IN THE NATION’S CAPITAL
Our museums and art galleries are among the best in the world. We also have a rich and diverse local music scene which is often overlooked. Support the local musicians!
