Forecast: Muggy and miserable

Though heat records will not be broken this weekend, that’s cold comfort in the face of 90-degree highs and the possibility of isolated thunderstorms to ease the misery.

With humidity around 70 percent and a series of afternoon thunderstorms in recent weeks, the weather seems tropical.

“We don’t like the weather,” said Ramil Canlas, a D.C. resident during a break outside with some of his friends. “In the afternoon it gets hotter and the weather changes.”

The summer’s heat and humidity, however, can be more than just an irritation. Sibley Memorial Hospital of Washington said at least one person was admitted for weather-related reasons.

“We do have poor air quality, and that may exacerbate medical problems this weekend,” said So Young Pok, with the Washington Hospital Center. “We never know.”

In the end, however, there are those who do more than just cope with the sticky, sweltering climate.

“The weather is good, I like being outside,” said 12-year-old Alex Brown, of Alexandria, while on his way to the Air and Space Museum.

Even Brown, however, admitted that going out wasn’t always the best.

“Playing my video games inside is nice sometimes,” Brown said.
