GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina sheriff’s office is holding a fundraising event that promises to leave a lot of people wet and shivering.

Volunteers with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office are raising money for the Special Olympics on Saturday with a polar plunge at Emerald Pointe water park in Greensboro.

The outdoor waterpark will host up to 250 jumpers who will dive into a cold pool after soliciting donations for their feat. Predicted rain could prompt the soaked swimmers to scramble for shelter.

Sheriff’s Office Dive Team members will be in the water to ensure safety.

Volunteers expect to raise more than $50,000 from the event.
