HOUSTON (AP) — A small plane has crashed in a Houston-area field after the pilot reported the single-engine aircraft lost power.

U.S. Coast Guard officials say the pilot and a passenger escaped harm in the crash Tuesday afternoon about 3 miles northeast of Ellington Field. Officials believe the plane departed from nearby La Porte (luh PORT’).

Two Coast Guard crews were training in the area when they overheard a radio transmission from the pilot saying his plane was going down.

Coast Guard personnel observed the plane making an emergency landing and coming to rest nose down in the field. The crews took the pilot and the passenger to Ellington Field to be checked by medical personnel.
