‘Consistent, strong, emphatic’: David Axelrod declares Warren the debate winner

Former Obama strategist David Axelrod hailed the performance of Sen. Elizabeth Warren after the first Democratic presidential debate this year, calling her “consistent, strong, emphatic.”

Warren received the most speaking time of all the candidates, but the Massachusetts Democrat’s biggest moment might have happened after the debate when she refused to shake the hand of Sen. Bernie Sanders. The two have gone head-to-head after a leaked campaign memo showed Sanders blasting Warren.

Candidate Speaking Time

Warren has since accused the Vermont independent of telling her in a private meeting in 2018 that a woman could not win the presidency. Sanders was forced to defend himself in the debate, where he claimed that he never said a woman could not win the presidency.
