Police union Chairman Kris Baumann once again has been turned aside in his efforts to stop the D.C. police department from investigating him over the leak of information related to a controversial barricade incident. Baumann says he is being illegally targeted by an internal affairs investigation into how the media obtained a recording of police conversations during a May 30 standoff with a gunman. The conversations lended credence to accusations that Mayor Adrian Fenty meddled in the standoff, and Baumann says in court documents he released the tape to expose government wrongdoing. But Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly ruled that Bauman’s motion for an injunction was premature. It is the second time this summer she has turned back such a request.
