Conservative CNN contributor Amanda Carpenter said former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski “owned” the House Judiciary Committee during his testimony before them.
Lewandowski testified before the committee, with Democrats ostensibly hoping he would shed light on one of 10 specific instances special counsel Robert Mueller laid out in his report that could be considered obstruction of justice. Mueller did not rule on whether or not these examples were an obstruction of justice, following the long-standing Department of Justice guideline that prevents a sitting president from being indicted.
Amanda Carpenter, a former staffer for Sens. Jim DeMint and Ted Cruz, told CNN’s Jake Tapper, “It is clear from the Mueller report he was a willing agent of obstruction, attempted obstruction, because they didn’t obstruct justice. But we’re all thinking, ‘What was the point of this hearing today?’ Republicans — a lot of Trump people talk about owning the libs, Corey Lewandowksi owned the Judiciary Committee today.”
“Jerry Nadler played a stupid game and they won a stupid prize because Corey Lewandowski just made a sham of that. Republicans on that committee with the mockery of the process, this system is broken. If the Democrats want to go impeach the president, they should have started that process a long time ago,” she continued. “They need to drop this. You can’t do impeachment in an election year. It will look terrible. So they need to figure out a game plan, because it is clear they have no idea how to handle this administration.”
Because the White House directed him not to answer questions, Lewandowski spent much of his testimony responding combatively to Democrats who were asking questions about his conversations with Trump.
