LastPass, one of the largest password managers in the world, confirmed that it has been hacked.
The company announced in a Thursday notice that an unauthorized party was able to access its internal data. However, the company maintains that the passwords of its 25 million users are safe.

“We have determined that an unauthorized party gained access to portions of the LastPass development environment through a single compromised developer account and took portions of source code and some proprietary LastPass technical information,” said Karim Toubba, the company’s CEO. The hack occurred two weeks ago, but the company claimed there is no other evidence of malicious behavior. It also claimed that there is no evidence that any customer data or password vaults were accessed.
Consumers may be concerned that a hacker could have acquired access to their master passwords, thus giving them access to the entirety of user data. “We never store or have knowledge of your Master Password,” Toubba added. “We utilize an industry-standard Zero Knowledge architecture that ensures LastPass can never know or gain access to our customers’ Master Password.”

This is not the first time LastPass has been hacked. The company confirmed in June 2015 that hackers accessed the network, prompting the company to advise users to change their master passwords. LastPass users do not have to take action in this case but should continue to be cautious about protecting their master password.
