Cocaine by any other name will still have three and a half times as much caffeine as Red Bull.
The Las Vegas company marketing the Cocaine energy drink as “the legal alternative” will voluntarily recall its product and market it under a new name after its makers got bogged down in legal proceedings in Illinois, Connecticut and Texas.
With the summer heat coming on, energy drinks such as Cocaine could become harmful, said Michael Gimbel, a drug addictions educator with Sheppard Pratt Health Systems in Baltimore.
“Caffeine dehydrates, and it gets worse in the heat or when an athlete is working out, when they need to rehydrate,” he said.
