Political Card Tricks

When the germ of this cartoon idea sprouted in my head, I though fleshing it out would prove to be easy. I had the first two panels in mind and figured I could come up with a play on the word “card” for the third. However, the punchline kept eluding me. Each time I sensed I was getting close, I would go cross-eyed and the idea would vanish with a tiny puff of smoke. As you can see, I did end up with a suitable ending, but not before exerting considerably more mental effort than I thought it would take.
