Rolling Stones to play free concert in Cuba on Easter weekend

The Rolling Stones will give a free concert in Cuba on March 25, the band said Tuesday.

According to a statement, the Stones will play in Havana’s Cuidad Deportiva three days after President Obama visits Havana. The concert will be the first open air concert in Cuba by a British rock band ever.

“We have performed in many special places during our long career but this show in Havana is going to be a landmark event for us, and, we hope, for all our friends in Cuba too,” said a statement released by the band.

The “Concert of Amity” has been in the planning stages for several months, the band said.

Obama, who will be joined on his trip by first lady Michelle Obama on March 21 and 22, will become the first sitting president of the United States sot visit the communist island country in more than 70 years. Obama has moved to ease trade and travel restrictions between the U.S. and Cuba, angering Republicans and even some Democrats who said it was a mistake not to demand human rights and political reforms on the island.
