George W. Bush announces ‘warm congratulations’ to presumptive President-elect Joe Biden

Former President George W. Bush revealed he called presumptive President-elect Joe Biden to speak with him on his declared success in the election.

On Sunday, the former Republican president gave “warm congratulations” to Biden and California Sen. Kamala Harris, the presumptive vice president-elect. He also congratulated “President Trump and his supporters” on their “hard-fought campaign.”

“I just talked to the President-elect of the United States, Joe Biden. I extended my warm congratulations and thanked him for the patriotic message he delivered last night. I also called Kamala Harris to congratulate her on her historic election to the vice presidency. Though we have political differences, I know Joe Biden to be a good man, who has won his opportunity to lead and unify our country. The President-elect reiterated that while he ran as a Democrat, he will govern for all Americans,” the statement reads.

Bush added that he supported Trump’s right “to request recounts and pursue legal challenges, and any unresolved issues will be properly adjudicated,” but stated that Biden’s victory is clear. “The American people can have confidence that this election was fundamentally fair, its integrity will be upheld, and its outcome is clear,” he continued.

In a statement released on Saturday through his campaign, Trump declared that “this election is far from over.”

“Joe Biden has not been certified as the winner of any states, let alone any of the highly contested states headed for mandatory recounts, or states where our campaign has valid and legitimate legal challenges that could determine the ultimate victor,” the statement reads.

On Sunday, Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani said he has evidence that may change the results of the presidential electoral map. Giuliani said the lawsuits being filed by the Trump campaign might reveal that up to 900,000 invalid ballots were cast in the state of Pennsylvania, a key election swing state several news outlets projected Biden would win.
