Punxsutawney Phil garners final Weather Discovery Center Hall of Fame induction


The famous groundhog title of Punxsutawney Phil will be inducted as the final member of the Weather Discovery Center’s Meteorologist Hall of Fame.

Officials at the center, which is located in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, announced the honor on Monday, saying, “the seer of seers, prognosticator of all prognosticators, Punxsutawney Phill is the 2023 — and final — Hall of Fame inductee.”

IT’S A NUTCASE: PLANTERS OPENS SEARCH FOR NUTMOBILE DRIVERS

Punxsutawney Phil will be inducted on Feb. 1, the day before the annual Groundhog Day tradition regarding whether or not the country will face an additional six weeks of winter.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at noon at the Weather Discovery Center.

The event is open to the public at the cost of $8. A small reception following the ceremony is also planned.

“Punxsutawney Phil” began his forecasting career in 1887. Each year, thousands of people make their way to Gobbler’s Knob for the Groundhog Day event, where records show the groundhog has predicted additional weeks of winter more than 100 times.

Last year, Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow, predicting six more weeks of winter.
