Virginia Senate candidate George Allen racked in high-level endoresments Monday from House Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Rep. Bob Goodlatte in his bid to win the Republican nomination and take back the Senate seat he lost to Democrat Jim Webb five years ago.
Allen’s chief rival for the Republican nomination is Tea Party leader Jamie Radtke. Though Cantor has pushed Tea Party priorities in the past, he backed Allen, saying he agreed with him on conservative, anti-tax priorities.
Polls in early August put Allen far ahead of Radtke, with Allen garnering 68 percent to Radtke’s 6 percent, according to Public Policy Polling.
