The indictment of Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens is the latest black-eye in a series of blows Republicans have taken the past few years. Stevens, the longest-serving GOP senator in history, is the king of pork and the man behind the legendary “Bridge to Nowhere.” His spendthrift attitude was emblematic of the Republican majority before Democrats won control of Congressin 2006. With all of the party’s scandals — from Ted Stevens to Tom Delay and Jack Abramoff — coupled with the decay of fiscal conservatism, it appears Republicans have lost their way. Don’t think voters aren’t watching.
