Kyle Rittenhouse released from custody after posting bail: Police

Kyle Rittenhouse, the teenager who allegedly shot and killed multiple people during the Kenosha riots, has been released from jail after posting bail, police said.

His lawyer posted the $2 million bail, and he was released on Friday around 2 p.m., a spokesman with the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department announced. Funding for his bail was raised through a fundraising campaign, according to Fox News.

Rittenhouse, 17, allegedly killed Anthony Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum during a night of unrest on Aug. 25, following the police shooting of Jacob Blake, a black man. Given the protests, the teenager crossed state lines from Illinois to Wisconsin to defend a car dealership from looters. Rittenhouse allegedly shot Rosenbaum when he began to chase the teenager. After the alleged shooting, Rittenhouse ran from the scene.

Shortly after, Rittenhouse fell, and as people were converging on him, he opened fire again, this time hitting and killing Huber and Gaige Grosskreutz, who was wounded. After the shootings, the teenager returned to Illinois before he was arrested and held there. He was then extradited to Wisconsin, even though his legal team opposed that decision.

Rittenhouse is facing a first-degree intentional homicide charge for killing Huber and first-degree reckless homicide in the death of Rosenbaum. He is also charged with attempted first-degree homicide for wounding Grosskreutz with his rifle.

Rittenhouse could get up to life in prison if convicted of the charges. His next scheduled court appearance is set for Dec. 3.
