THE SEARCH FOR VICTIMS CONTINUES THREE DAYS AFTER THE EARTH SWEPT THROUGH THE AFGHAN VILLAGE OF ABI BARIK, KILLING HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE.
OFFICIALS SAY IT WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE TO BRING UP ALL THE BODIES.
STILL MANY VILLAGERS HAVE CONTINUED DIGGING ON THEIR OWN.

THERE’S NO OFFICIAL ESTIMATE ON THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO DIED. IT COULD BE SEVERAL HUNDRED TO SEVERAL THOUSAND.
THE LANDSLIDE FRIDAY ALSO DESTROYED 300 HOMES AND DISPLACED HUNDREDS OF FAMILIES.

“We have lost all our belongings, our property. We had many problems rescuing each other, some of our family members were killed, and right now we are living in a desert.”
THE SCHOOL BUILDING SURVIVED.
YET UNDER THE THREAT OF FURTHER LANDSLIDES AND FLOODING THE SURVIVING CHILDREN HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO ATTEND SCHOOL.
FRIDAY’S LANDSLIDE WAS LIKELY TRIGGERED BY HEAVY RAINS THAT HAVE FALLEN ACROSS NORTHERN AFGHANISTAN IN RECENT WEEKS.
