Prominent GOP donor Meg Whitman compared presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini and hinted she would be supporting Hillary Clinton, according to a report from ABC News.
Whitman made the comments during a closed-door summit on Friday held by former GOP nominee Mitt Romney, who has also heavily criticized Trump.
“She posed the question, ‘Is it not reasonable to support Hillary Clinton?’ given all the awful things Trump has said,” donor John Chachas told ABC News.
Whitman indicated she would likely vote for Clinton but didn’t mention donating to the presumptive Democratic nominee, ABC News reported. Her office later told ABC News that she hasn’t made any final decisions.
ABC News also said that an informal poll at the summit found support evenly divided for Trump and Clinton.
Whitman backed New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie during the primaries and criticized him after he gave Trump a high-profile endorsement.
Whitman was Romney’s finance co-chair in 2012 and ran for California governor as a Republican in 2010, losing to current incumbent Jerry Brown.
