Kellyanne Conway, counselor to President Trump, slammed reporters Wednesday for covering Trump negatively no matter what he does and lamented that too many journalists express their opinions on social media.
“Some of those Twitter feeds are a hot mess,” Conway said during an event at the Newseum in Washington that was dedicated to the Trump administration’s relationship with the media.
“I think there is something that I call presumptive negativity,” Conway said. “For this president, it’s often seen through the negative lens, which is not just unfair — it’s inaccurate.”
Conway argued too many journalists have failed to learn from their flawed coverage of the 2016 election, during which most reporters assumed Trump would suffer a decisive defeat
“I don’t know that folks have really taken a step back and said, ‘Ok, I missed a lot in the election, obviously,'” she said. “Don’t keep getting it wrong by covering the president the way you covered him as a candidate.”
While Conway acknowledged that stories about “palace intrigue” and internal disputes among White House staff were more exciting than stories about policy, she questioned why the media has largely ignored Trump’s substantive accomplishments since Inauguration Day.
