Mike Pence will visit US-Mexico border next week

Vice President Mike Pence is scheduled to head to the U.S.-Mexico border early next week, according to a new report.

Pence will make a stop at the border town of Calexico on Monday, Fox 5 News reports.

The visit will come on the heels of a California fundraising swing in Beverly Hills and Malibu over the weekend. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., will accompany him during the fundraising events.

Pence paid a visit to the Texas-Mexico border in February, and President Trump traveled to California close to the U.S.-Mexican border in March to look at prototypes for a potential border wall.

Border security has long been a priority of Trump’s.

Trump’s longtime desire for the construction a wall along the southern border recently hit a snag in dealing with Congress for funding the project. The omnibus bill he signed last month included $1.6 billion in funding for the wall, although Trump had originally wanted $25 billion designated for the project.

Earlier this month National Guard troops were deployed to help secure the border.
