Trump to transform GOP into ‘worker’s party’

Donald Trump predicted Thursday that once he wins the White House, he’ll completely transform the Republican Party.

“Five, 10 years from now — different party,” the presumed GOP nominee said in an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek‘s Joshua Green published Thursday.

“You’re going to have a worker’s party. A party of people that haven’t had a real wage increase in 18 years, that are angry,” Trump said, adding that cutting Social Security is a “big mistake” for the GOP.

He explained that he knows “it’s a big part of the budget,” but said “cutting it the wrong way is a big mistake, and even cutting it [at all].”

Trump also added that he doesn’t necessarily spend time going through “deep analysis” to get his unorthodox views.

“I’m not sure I got there through deep analysis,” he explained. “My views are what everybody else’s views are. When I give speeches, sometimes I’ll sign autographs and I’ll get to talk to people and learn a lot about the party.”

Throughout his campaign, Trump said he’s learned more and more that voters are “disgusted” with leaders of the Republican Party and “channeled their outrage” when voting for him in primaries.

The billionaire businessman did admit that immigration was not his forte before he launched his presidential campaign last summer.

“When I made my [announcement] speech at Trump Tower, the June 16 speech,” he said, “I didn’t know about the Gang of Eight. … I just knew instinctively that our borders are a mess.”

Trump also praised Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, though he and the RNC have often head-butted during the campaign cycle.

“I call Reince ‘Mr. Switzerland,'” he said in the interview. “He’s doing a great job as peacemaker.”

The interview was part of a full profile of Priebus, titled “How to Get Trump Elected When He’s Wrecking Everything You Built.”
