Name: Theresa Colvin
Occupation: Executive director, Maryland State Arts Council
Why I love this picture: There are so many pieces of work that move me, but the one that I have selected is Theodore Robinson?s painting, “In the Grove, 1888,” which I just viewed again this past Saturday. The image of a young woman, standing utterly still among the trees resonates with me, I suppose, because it reminds me that one can best hear your own voice when standing still. The young woman is clearly contemplating, but about what? Whatever it may be, she is encircled by sunlight illuminating her way.
