BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — State officials are accepting bids to operate and maintain New York’s largest marina, which is now part of Buffalo Harbor State Park.

WIVB-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1Dlz7u3 ) that the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. has released a request for proposals for operating the Small Boat Harbor. With more than 1,000 slips, the Lake Erie marina is the state’s largest and one of the largest in the Great Lakes region.

The winning bidder would also be in charge of a harborside restaurant, parking lots and several smaller buildings.

A year ago this month, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that the harbor and nearby Gallagher Beach would become part of a new state park under plans to transform 400 acres of underutilized land along Buffalo’s waterfront. The park officially became part of the state parks system in May.
