KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — Small Michigan breweries that want to sell their beer in cans but are backing away because of the upfront costs will soon have another option.
The Kalamazoo Gazette ( http://bit.ly/YWIm0X ) reports that Andrew McLean of Kalamazoo and Scott Richards of Traverse City are launching the state’s first mobile canning line, called Michigan Mobile Canning. They expect to hit the road by June.
McLean says they want to ensure the state is a “mecca for microbrewers.” They have a 16-foot box truck that is fitted to fill the cans at the brewery and then leave. They have invested more than $160,000 and expect to be able fill 2 million to 2.5 million cans a year.
Their first client will be Right Brain Brewery in Traverse City.
