GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — The transit system serving western Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley is testing an electric bus.
The Glenwood Springs Post Independent reports (http://tinyurl.com/mofbse8 ) the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority was trying the bus in Carbondale on Tuesday.

The model demonstrated was built by Proterra of Greenville, South Carolina.
It costs about $825,000, compared with $600,000 for a diesel hybrid and $475,000 for a bus powered by compressed natural gas. Electric buses also require charging stations, battery maintenance and training.
Officials say overall operating costs are lower, however.
The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority provides bus service between Rifle and Aspen, serving Glenwood Springs, ski resorts and other communities in between.
