Donald Trump encouraged Sen. Bernie Sanders to run as an independent Monday if he loses the Democratic nomination to Hillary Clinton in the “rigged” primary.
In a tweet sent Monday morning, Trump said Sanders “is being treated very badly” by his party in a primary fight that is increasingly tilted in Clinton’s favor.

Trump’s words of support came just two days after Clinton extended her delegate lead in Nevada on Saturday at a state convention that was marred by controversy.
Sanders’ supporters have often accused the Democratic Party of stacking the deck for Clinton due to the number of superdelegates, or delegates not bound by the results of their state, that came out early in the primary for the former secretary of state.
As Clinton gets closer to clinching the Democratic nomination, Sanders has vowed to take the fight against her to the convention in July by attempting to convince superdelegates to switch their support.
