Former Vice President Joe Biden responded Friday to the statements made against Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., this week by a White House official and a Fox News contributor, saying decency in the Trump administration has “hit rock bottom.”
“People have wondered when decency would hit rock bottom with this administration. It happened yesterday,” Biden said, referring to comments criticizing the senator on his opposition of nominee for CIA director Gina Haspel and her involvement in enhanced interrogation programs.

In his statement, Biden said McCain is a war hero who deserves much better.
“Given this White House’s trail of disrespect towards John and others, this staffer is not the exception to the rule; she is the epitome of it,” Biden said.
White House aide Kelly Sadler reportedly said Thursday that McCain’s stance on Haspel doesn’t matter because he’s “dying anyway,” and in the same day retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney told Fox that McCain’s nickname is “Songbird John” and claimed that torture worked on the him.
