Report card mailings late for some 20,000 D.C. students

Officials said Thursday that they are investigating a “glitch” that kept 20,000-plus students from getting their report cards. Schools spokeswoman Roxanne Evans said that an “accounting glitch” delayed mailing for junior-, middle-, and high schoolers from going out on time. She said she couldn’t elaborate.

All the delinquent report cards should be in the mail by today, Evans said.

The report cards were supposed to go out about a week after school ended on June 14, Evans said. School officials are now scrambling to see if they can accommodate those students who need summer school to graduate, but Evans added that students and parents should already have an idea that they were short of credits. Summer school started June 26, Evans said.

It was the latest in a string of embarrassments for the public schools, which are currently in the middle of a fractious argument about the decision to close several schools around the District. – Staff report
