Carson: Obama offered me surgeon general position

Ben Carson revealed this week that the Obama administration offered him the position of surgeon general before it “found out who I really was.”

In a radio interview with Fox News’ Alan Colmes on Monday, Carson said that the Obama administration, along with the Bush administration, offered up the cabinet position to him. He also added that he would not serve in a potential Trump administration because he isn’t interested in “a government position.”

“I will certainly continue to talk to [Trump] and advise him, but I do not want a government position,” Carson said.

“Surgeon General Carson?” asked the radio host.

“You know George W. Bush offered me that position. The Obama administration, before they found out who I really was, offered me that position,” Carson said, adding, “no, I’m not interested.”

Carson first rose to fame after his 2013 speech before the National Prayer Breakfast, which he delivered as President Obama sat only seats away.

He is set to speak later on Tuesday at the Republican National Convention.
