HERKIMER, N.Y. (AP) — An upstate New York man shot by a state trooper during a confrontation in April is now facing menacing and weapon possession charges.

Authorities say 32-year-old David Pope was arraigned this week on felony charges of menacing a police officer and criminal possession of a weapon.

Pope was hospitalized in critical condition after being shot once in the abdomen in his home on April 26.

Police say Pope was armed with a large kitchen knife when he charged at a trooper who had gone to the home to investigate a 911 call about a disturbance.

Pope is being held at the Herkimer County Correctional Facility. Court officials weren’t available Friday to say if he has a lawyer.
