Former White House adviser Steve Bannon is “excited” about former Rep. Michael Grimm’s attempt to take back his old House seat, Grimm told Newsweek.
“I mean, he’s not the type of guy that shows emotion easily, but I could tell he was definitely excited,” Grimm said.
Grimm posted a picture of himself with Bannon on Tuesday, with the caption “Game on,” a sign that Bannon is looking to help Grimm win in 2018.
“We’re definitely going to work together … And I can say that Steve Bannon was very excited about it,” he said.
Grimm faces an uphill climb, as he just completed a prison sentence after being found guilty of tax evasion. Grimm has adopted President Trump’s “make America great again” tagline, and said he fits the mold of people that Bannon is trying to get to Congress.
“He knows [I’ll] work as hard as I have to for the people that I represent. I’m not beholden to Washington,” Grimm said.
